Kart racing has three forms. Sprint racing where competitors race on permanent circuits ranging from 400 meters to 1km in length. Road racing takes place on full size tarmac motor racing circuits & sprint karts compete at these events with a compulsory clutch and aerodynamic bodywork optional. Superkarts, which are 250cc gearbox karts designed for road racing, also compete at these meetings.

Dirt racing is contested using sprint kart chassis and engines and is raced on dirt and clay speedway tracks.

Many Formula One Drivers developed their skills in go karts. Ayrton Senna, Prost, Ralf and Michael Schumacher to name a few.

At UK Kart tracks Kart drivers are required to wear purpose made driving suits or leathers, approved safety helmets, gloves and special lace up shoes.
